In the past, getting mental health care meant taking half a day off work, sitting in a crowded waiting room, and having an uncomfortable conversation in a sterile office.
At Real Psychiatric Services, we believe healthcare should fit into your life, not disrupt it. Telehealth isn't just a "backup option"—it is our primary way of delivering accessible, high-quality care to patients across the entire state of Ohio, from Cincinnati to Cleveland and every rural town in between.
Why "Virtual First"?
Telehealth offers distinct clinical advantages beyond just saving you the drive time.
"White Coat Syndrome"
Many patients feel anxious in medical offices, which can skew their symptoms (making blood pressure or anxiety appear worse). Being in your own home allows us to see the "real you" in your natural, comfortable environment.
Consistency of Care
The #1 reason therapy fails is missed appointments. When you remove barriers like traffic, childcare, or bad weather, you are far more likely to stick to your treatment plan and see real results.
How It Works: Step-by-Step
If you can use FaceTime or Zoom, you can use our system. We handle the tech so you can focus on the conversation.
1. The Digital Intake
Instead of filling out a clipboard of papers in the lobby, you will complete our secure digital intake forms on your phone or laptop before your visit. This gives your provider time to review your history before they meet you.
2. The Secure Link
10 minutes before your appointment, you’ll receive a secure link via text or email. No downloads required. Just click, and you are placed in a private virtual waiting room until your provider joins.
3. The Visit
You’ll have a face-to-face video consultation (typically 60 minutes for new patients). We will discuss your history, symptoms, and goals. It feels just like a normal conversation.
4. E-Prescribing
If medication is part of your plan, we send the prescription electronically to your preferred local pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, etc.) instantly. It is usually ready for pickup by the time you finish your coffee.
Privacy & Security (HIPAA)
"We do not use consumer apps like Skype or standard Zoom. Your privacy is non-negotiable."
We utilize a specialized medical telehealth platform that is HIPAA-Compliant and fully encrypted.
- End-to-End Encryption: No one can intercept or record your session.
- No Data Sharing: Unlike social media apps, our platform does not harvest your data for ads.
- Discreet: The charge on your bank statement and the notifications on your phone are discreet, protecting your privacy from others.
A Note on Controlled Substances
One of the most common questions we get is about medications for ADHD (Stimulants) or Anxiety (Benzodiazepines).
The Ryan Haight Act & Current Laws:
Telehealth regulations are constantly evolving. At Real Psychiatric Services, we strictly adhere to all Federal (DEA) and Ohio Board of Nursing regulations.
In many cases, we can manage these medications via telehealth. However, depending on current laws, an occasional in-person visit at our Columbus (Indianola Ave) clinic may be required to establish or maintain care. We will always be transparent with you about these requirements during your intake.
Patient FAQ
Does insurance cover video visits?
Yes. Since the pandemic, almost all major insurance payers in Ohio (Aetna, Blue Cross, Cigna, UHC, etc.) cover telehealth exactly the same as an in-person visit. Your copay is typically the same.
Can I do the visit from my car?
Technically yes, but we advise against it unless you are parked in a private location. For your own privacy and focus, we recommend finding a quiet room where you won't be interrupted. (Please do not drive during your session—we will have to end the call for safety reasons!)
